Using Model Drawing to Solve Word Problems

Dear 3B Math Detectives,

Model drawing is one very useful way that excellent Math detectives use to solve word problems. To help you develop this important skill, I have found 2 websites which provide practices on model drawing. You are strongly encouraged to try the practice questions.

1.  Model Drawing involving Part-Whole

2. Model Drawing involving Comparing – 2Steps

Hope that you will find them helpful. (:

Exploring EDP Science Garden

The young scientists of 3B explored EDP Science Garden yesterday. In their groups, they had to classify the things that they had observed into living and non-living things. The thing that impressed me the most was the teamwork  displayed by the children! (:

Fearless Phil: Group Writing

Over the past few days, 3B children were given the opportunity to create their own version of Fearless Phil in groups. A couple of groups also had the chance to present their work to their friends. Judging from their enthusiasm in the activity, it was obvious that they enjoyed doing the group writing very much.

Classification of Plants

Young 3B scientists were given given parcels containing cutouts of different plants this morning. They were told to work in groups to classify the plants based on the characteristics that they had observed. It was definitely interesting to find out from them why they grouped the different plants under the respective headings.

Here are some pictures of the scientists at work.
